grey's: "or do you want to literally take off your pants?"

Okay... the post I just did... so didn't get me out of my Grey's Funk Of Doom.

Therefore... this.

PROMPT ME.

Character/Pairing | Song/Book/Movie/Episode Name/Whatever tickles your fancy | Season/Era (including future)

(things you should probably know -
I suck at completing all prompts. Forewarned is fore-prepared for disappointment.
If your prompt includes Alex it is exponentially more likely to be completed.
I suck at fluff.
And I hate it. Most of the time.
No non-canon slash. I just can't do it anymore.
Or incest.
Threesomes? Maybe. As long as Alex is one of the three.
If you choose a character/pairing not including Alex he will probably definitely still make an appearance.
I love Alex.
I am an angst whore.
That is all.)

Hi, just browsing through again. You want Alex prompts? Lemme think...post-op complications (because he would so have them, really speaking) from the various POVs of the shell-shocked survivors tending him (eg Bailey - he's the final one of her ducklings to be on that table; Cristina keeping Meredith informed/balancing being as truthful as possible with trying not to stress her out; Meredith balancing concern for her recovering husband with anxiety over her gravely injured friend, maybe even trying to be there for Lexie as much as her own emotional state will allow) - potential for lots of ruminations around Alex's unconscious person, not to mention a bunch of crises and surgeries and whatnot (although prob too complicated to actually write)!

Maybe even a POV of one of the Seattle Pres staff, having the most critically injured survivor in their ICU and having to cope with all the Seattle Grace staff hovering and interfering!

Or...more missing scenes of Meredith, Bailey, etc finding out about Alex and reacting.

I'm kinda intrigued by the notion of Meredith coping with two post-op cardio-thoracic patients in the house, having suffered similar yet very different injuries - could maybe be interesting stories to tell there.

Shall think some more.

Oh, if you're looking for GA icons, my friend has stacks at her icon journal: http://community.livejournal.com/shredofart/

Squee!! Seconded!!

Leesa, write it!!!!

[identity profile] waltzmatildah.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
I know right?! How freaking awesome is that prompt?!!

[identity profile] waltzmatildah.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Detailed prompt is... detailed! And... I FREAKING LOVE IT!!!

Your prompt caters to every angsty/hurtcomfort bone in my body (which, let's face it, is all of them!).

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, but I suck so much at the Character/Pairing | Song/Book/Movie/Episode Name/Whatever tickles your fancy | Season/Era (including future) prompt thing - I just went for the stream of consciousness approach!

Also, I may have thought about this rather too much, because that finale pressed every angsty h/c button I have, but I don't write fic any more (plus chickened out of the medical research), so haven't done more than think about it from various angles. I just can't get past the thought that, given how long it took to evacuate him, there would have been secondary complications setting in long before he made it to the ER - I mean, the hypovolemic shock alone. Add to that potential surgical complications...

I hope you get your muse back, because I've been loving your codas. Also, I think I'm going to friend you, if that's okay, again because I've been loving your codas. There aren't many GA writers out there writing to my Alex kink. *G*

[identity profile] waltzmatildah.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You should definitely friend me and I'm gonna go do the same to you.

Also... but I don't write fic any more
What would it take to make you change your mind??? And any more??? Does that mean there is Alex fic somewhere? Old stuff?? That I don't know about???????!!

plus chickened out of the medical research
Because I'm a complete and total nerd, this actually excites me... so far I've come up with post surgical pneumonia and pulmonary embolism as the leading contenders but my research is only in its infancy...!

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, no, I've never written for GA - I used to write bits and pieces for a variety of other fandoms, but for me the writing process was always way slow and laboured, and then I found I was more interested in meta (mostly SN), so focused on that, and then new job and real life in general took over, so even that petered out this last season! I'm currently feeling more inspired by GA than I ever was in the past, though - I watched the first few seasons, but it was never a primary fandom, and then I stopped watching, but then that finale sucked me back in and now I'm mainlining the show and noticing so much more than I ever did before. But I'm not currently letting myself write much down because I'm so far behind on so many other projects...

so far I've come up with post surgical pneumonia and pulmonary embolism as the leading contenders but my research is only in its infancy...!
Hee! I love the way you think. Go for broke. Have both. Pile on the angst and the 'he's not going to make it' trauma! *G*

And now? Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and Ventilator Associated Pneumonia.

So it turns out getting shot in the chest can be very bad for your health!

I am a very sad case.

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2010-06-23 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, I totally get the nerd-dom. I have researched many bizarre things in my time, in the name of fandom - I once spent an entire week writing a paper on the psychology of surviving hell, a la SN's Dean...

As for treating Alex's injury with due gravitas (which didn't happen on the show - once Derek had been shot, we barely saw Alex again, so know nothing of how his surgery went, etc), well...this article alone has me all kinds of intrigued, and that was just one google click! So I don't see you as a sad case at all. Merely dedicated. *G*

Also, thanks for the icon info. I will definitely check them out...

Irene makes some lovely stuff, so have fun browsing.

I thought of another possible prompt - a Mark POV. Because I've been watching the early seasons lately, having a major GA marathon, and realised for the first time that Alex doesn't actually do anything to earn himself Mark's enmity, not back in the first instance. It comes as a bit of a surprise, because Alex has spent most of the first 2 seasons deliberately antagonising everyone around him as a means of holding them all at arm's length, but then Mark comes along, and all Alex wants is to learn from him, it's the first time we see him really make an effort in that way...and Mark takes an instant dislike to him for no reason. Four seasons later, that antagonism between them is still going strong, just with a lot of history attached. So Mark's perspective on the man who's life he just saved could be interesting, as a retrospective kind of rumination.

I'm thinking about this way too much!

[identity profile] waltzmatildah.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, I LOVE the fact that you're thinking about it way too much! Because your prompts are blowing my mind! Haha.

The finale just aired here in Australia, it literally finished just minutes ago... my inspiration levels are all sky high again so... yay!

[identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it is important to think about it too much during hiatus, because I fully expect that anything we see of Alex's recovery next season will be underwritten to allow Derek to have the harder time of it, whereas I firmly believe that the opposite would be true (given Derek's almost instant medical attention versus Alex not being either found or evacuated quickly enough). So indulgence ahead of the fact is crucial to cushion any future disappointment!

I'd never explored GA fanfic before now. Yours is definitely my favourite of what I've found so far. :)

*sigh*

Well, you can rest assured that in MY fic, Derek will make a speedy and complete recovery and the focus will most definitely be on Alex! Makes me feel very powerful to be able to say that!!

Storytellers are like gods in their own little universes. Powerful indeed! *G*

Just now, every time I watch an episode in which someone's surgery goes wrong causing much drama and excitement while the crisis is resolved, I picture it happening during one of Alex's surgeries...because I'm also picturing multiple surgeries. I have this recurring image of Meredith calling in to see him on her way to take Derek home, Alex grumbling about Shepherd being discharged so soon, and Meredith pointing out that their injuries were different, he had more surgery than Derek and lost a lot more blood, so is going to have to suck it up and wait out the longer recovery.

Holy beejeebus.

This has finally stalled at 4400 words and I think it's maybe kinda possibly... done!

The thought of editing it is almost too much to bear at this stage but expect it... soonish!!

You are a trooper. I am very impressed, and looking forward to reading the final result.

i am folded, and unfolded, and unfolding... (alex, cristina, meredith, teddy, jackson, cast - PG)

So... here it is... in all it's supremely confusing, not to mention completely verbose, glory!!!
