This was the first episode of this season that I actually enjoyed for the most part, start to finish. I mean, yes, there are things that continue to confuse and bug me, but I kind of felt like those things (finally) took a backseat to a more even and engaging episode.

What I liked:

Alex, of course. I *love* that they decided to have the character go into Pedes, because, as Callie noted, he doesn't seem like an obvious fit to do so, but he clearly excels there.

I also continue to love his interactions with Arizona, and I adored his "boobs" speech at the end. I actually missed a good bit of what Alex said the first time around, because I couldn't stop laughing. The look on Arizona's face was too cute, as well.

And Alex stepping up to defend Mark! That was both surprising and satisfying. It showed a great deal of maturity on Alex's part and made me wonder what Mark would think should Arizona let it slip that it was *Alex* who convinced her to give Mark a chance (*hint, hint, fic anyone?*). And the fact that Alex showed such maturity and then immediately followed it with his remarks about breasts in general and Arizona's in particular is one of the reasons I love this character so much. ::smiles::

I also loved Meredith this episode. I thought her decision to get tested for the Alzheimer's gene was very brave and very mature. I'm not always a Meredith fan, but I've been enjoying her character very much this season (apart from the premiere).

I like her developing friendship with April, as well as her moment with Lexie at the very end. I always love it when Meredith's maternal side shows itself, so I found her talk with Lexie to be a nice moment for the two sisters.

I was also very glad that Christina's PTSD did not take over all the other storylines this week. Had the writers handled her *this* way from the start, I know I would have been happier with the start of this season. Her trauma was acknowledged (and nicely handled by Bailey, I thought, who asked her into surgery but didn't force the issue, apparently understanding the decision *has* to be made by Christina in order for her to heal) as serious without overwhelming all else in the episode.

I *loved* the mention of Izzie in conjunction with the Chief's desire to turn the clinic into a bariatric center, because it got me hoping/thinking/wishing that this might be how Izzie is brought back to resolve some things with Alex. In other words, she hears of the Chief's plan and comes back to SGMWH in order to convince the Chief to keep the clinic. And along the way makes up with Alex and makes my A/I shipper heart explode with happiness. ::sighs:: A girl can wish.

What I didn't like:

Probably only the Jackson and Teddy story, because I'm not particularly fond of either character. But again, I was happy with the majority of the episode that even this did not bug me so much.

Derek, sort of. I didn't particularly care for his decision at the end of the episode (Let's pretend nothing's wrong! That always works, right?), but then again, I kind of understand where he's (possibly) coming from, if this decision was made in light of his recent trauma. In other words, I can't deal with any more bad news right now, so right or wrong I'm going to focus on the good and ignore the bad. ::shrugs:: I don't know. Maybe I'm way off base, but that's how I sort of read it.

I guess I don't care a whole lot, because the idea of Meredith and Derek going through all kinds of pregnancy drama did not thrill me, so if they're just going to drop the issue, "have a lot of sex," and just go from there, I'm okay with that.

But I still think Mere should know if she has the Alzheimer's gene, regardless of what Derek thinks about it.
