waltzmatildahSo, this post is mostly for my own benefit... but if anyone has anything to add in the lead up, please feel free.
In fact, I actively encourage it!
Theory One: The spoiler that indicates 'there will be a fatal fire at a female doctor's house' [paraphrased but mostly accurate I think!] can actually be interpreted like this...'fatal gunfire at the hospital'. The hospital being Meredith's 'house'. I speculate this because I think having a crazed gunman killing staff members AND a house fire that kills someone else is a bit much even for Grey's!
Theory Two: The sides that indicated a female doctor trying to get into her apartment building and being told no by the cops is actually Richard trying to get into the hospital after the shooting starts and the cops not letting him (as per the sneak peek).
Theory Three: Derek won't get shot. Meredith's scream and her being restrained by Cristina will be in reaction to Alex being wheeled past on a gurney. Usually I think this reaction would be a bit over the top for Mer, but, in light of George's death and Izzie's departure, I can see it.
Theory Four: It will take a while for Alex to be found. Reasoning? See theory four!
Theory Five: Mark and Lexie will be trapped together and kinda getting up close and personal (though not necessarily as up close and personal as Mer and Der on prom night). Lexie won't find out til after she's been considering getting back with Mark that Alex has been shot. She'll then feel super, duper, Lexie level guilty and go back to Alex.
Theory Six: Bailey's impossible decision will be one of two things... a) she will have to choose between operating on and saving Alex's life or operating on and saving the Gasman's life OR b) she is operating on Alex and will need to make a decision regarding saving an organ. From the sneak peek it looks like he was shot in the right chest, so if this pans out then I'll go with option A. But if it was right abdomen Bailey might be operating and have to decide whether to remove a kidney etc...
Theory Seven: Meredith and Cristina are going to be operating on and saving one of the boys, yes? I really can't see them being allowed to operate on Alex, unless it's really dire and there is no one else available... maybe they have to operate on the fly... ie. they find him but can't move him because the shooter is still on the loose and they have to operate where he is on the floor.
Theory Eight: Bailey is eaten, feet first, by a swamp monster. It's the only explanation I can come up with to explain why she slides backwards across the floor!! At least, that's what it looks like to me is happening in the promo.
Theory Nine: The promo that shows the matrix-like bullet tearing through the crowded corridor isn't actually from the episode. I mostly think this because there is footage of Alex in that shot and we know that he's not still standing after the first eight minutes... I can definitely imagine that it was created for hype (and... it worked!).
Theory Ten: In one way or another, Meredith won't be pregnant or, at least, won't have a baby (though that might not play out until next season). I can totally imagine that it will all be a misdirection of some kind...
